Herbal Medicine

The effectiveness of herbal medicine has been proven in general in many properly conducted scientific studies. One common reason why a study concludes that a herb does not work is that (even if it is written up in a prestigious journal) the study used some cheap product (yes sometimes containing 1/75 of an effective dose). The scientists team up with a quack and what do you get?

An example of how herbal medicine has been misrepresented was the JAMA study in 2002 which proved that Ginkgo biloba did not benefit those suffering from some type of dementia. They used 40mg, but the products that we sell have 3-7.5g per dose.

Well here I see another study, same journal reports a study in which 120mg per day of Ginkgo biloba was taken by dementia patients. They report a mild but significant improvement. Hey what if they tried our products?

Bradwejn J. et al. report that 12g of Gotu Kola daily significantly attenuated the acoustic startle response in healthy patients. It also improves rat's ability to get out of a maze. Boy do I need some! Actually I have 1kg in the freezer. I pick it down the river.

Buck A.C. et al found that grass pollen extract can reduce prostate swelling.

Gabrielian E.S. et al found a significant improvement in the symptoms of upper respiratory tract infections with the use of Andrographis paniculata.

Food is medicine

It should come as no surprise when you find out that science supports herbal medicine (although not in all cases, and sometimes they just get it wrong) that most plants have medicinal value. For example consuming tomato paste everyday can significantly reduce the risk of heart disease and other diseases. Nuts and cocoa are just as benificial. There is lots of evidence too that consuming seafood is equally beneficial.

Herbal teas also have therapeutic benefits, for example peppermint, ginger and chamomile. Every ingredient in a curry also. For example curcumin, the yellow stuff in turmeric is a more powerful antioxidant than vitamin E. It offers relief for arthritis sufferers, but piperin the hot substance in pepper is required in order to absorb it.
