Q How does Wagner Frutin protect against digestive discomfort?
A Wagner Frutin helps to combat reflux and heartburn by neutralizing burning sensation in the stomach. Although many people believe they have too much stomach acid, and that this is the cause of the pain, this is not normally the case. Heartburn is not generally related to how much acid is present in the stomach but how little. Heartburn occurs when the acid content of the stomach is pushed up into the gullet (oesophagus) through a ring formed muscle (the cardiac sphincter). The delicate mucous membranes are damaged by the acid causing the burning sensation identified as “heartburn.”
Q What causes heartburn?
A Spicy food, coffee, alcohol and smoking are well known triggers for heartburn. Stress also plays a major role. The secretion from the mucous membranes is weakened during stressed periods and it therefore takes less acid to break them down.
One in two pregnant women experience heartburn in the latter part of the pregnancy. This is due to a pressure on the stomach, which makes it easier for the stomach content to be pushed up into the gullet. Overweight people often experience the same problem.
