SOAPWORT. Saponaria officinalis. N.O. Caryophyllaceae.
Synonym : Bouncing Bet, Bruise—wort, Fuller's Herb, Soaproot.
Habitat : Roadsides and waste places near habitations.
Features : Stem two feet high, smooth, round, thick. Leaves stalked, ovoid, two to three inches long. Flowers (August) flesh-coloured to white, five cordate petals, clustered towards end of stem.
Part used : Leaves, root.
Action : Alterative, detergent.
Skin diseases generally. Decoction of 1 ounce to 1-Ir pints water simmered to 1 pint is taken in wineglass doses three or four times daily. Pronounced "soapy" properties will remove grease.
