Synonyms : Flag Lily, Liver Lily, Snake Lily, Water Lily. Habitat : Marshy places in Central America.
Features : Rhizome cylindrical, compressed towards larger end, where is cup-shaped stem scar. Breaks with sharp fracture, showing dark purple internally. Taste, acrid and pungent.
Part used : Root.
Action : Alterative, diuretic, cathartic.
Skin affections ; stimulates liver and other glands. Dose of the powdered root, 20 grains as a cathartic.
